Week 48: Architecture

Walking the 80-foot-high city walls of the Medieval city of Dubrovnik in Croatia gives one a bird’s eye view of the rooftops. About 40,000 people live within the walls. The architecture is Mediterranean, of course, marked by the orangey-yellowy tile roofs, but this house found a way to stand out from the rest. The pink surrounds of these windows screamed, “Shoot me!”

  1. The entire city of Dubrovnik has a total population of about 42,615 as of 2011 and within the city wall locals total about 600 as of today. The vast majority of homes in the old town are now summer vacation homes bought by foreigners after the 1991 homeland war.

  2. Wow, I do not remember those when I was there a few years ago. They do stand out. It is such a contrast from the old building and the rubble from the war that is just laying around. Definitely lots of possibilities there.
